I AM CINEMA provides fiscal sponsorship for select independent film projects that align with our mission and commitment to personally authored, humanistic, and artistically ambitious cinema.

What is fiscal sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship allows independent filmmakers to raise tax-deductible contributions for their projects without having to establish their own nonprofit organization.

Through I AM CINEMA, qualifying film projects can receive support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources that require donations to be made through a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

I AM CINEMA serves as the nonprofit home for sponsored projects, receiving and administering charitable contributions on their behalf while providing the financial oversight and accountability required of a fiscal sponsor.

Fiscal sponsorship can open the door to tax-deductible contributions, grants, foundations, and other charitable funding opportunities that may otherwise be unavailable to independent filmmakers.

But for us, fiscal sponsorship is about more than processing donations. We want to support films we believe deserve to exist—and the filmmakers determined to make them.

Films that could only be made by this filmmaker. We want distinctive voices rather than interchangeable products.

Stories that expand empathy, reveal overlooked lives, or explore the complexity of being human.

ARTISTICALLY AMBITIOUS

Work that uses cinematic language intentionally through image, sound, editing, production design, performance, and form.

CULTURALLY MEANINGFUL

Projects that contribute to larger conversations about humanity, identity, history, memory, justice, community, or imagination.

FORMALLY ADVENTUROUS

We welcome filmmakers willing to take creative risks rather than relying on convention.

Our goal is to help personally authored, artistically ambitious films find the resources they need to move forward—without asking filmmakers to compromise the vision that made the project worth supporting in the first place.
